The GCMS Junior Student 2 Student ambassadors are assigned to students in an effort to help ease the transition for those new to GCMS, whether they are military-connected or civilian.   Most of the ambassadors are military-connected students or have experienced school transitions themselves.  They periodically check in with their assigned student to help support academic excellence and social-emotional well-being.  The students strive to create a positive environment by hosting events for new students and serving at various school functions throughout the year.  JS2S ambassadors work on special projects such as staff appreciation, book drives, and notes of kindness during the school year.  Applications are sent out in May based on teacher recommendations.  Students must be rising 7th or 8th graders.

The BATTLE OF THE BOOKS program aims to help middle school students foster a lifelong love of reading. Students are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints by prominent authors. To be a member of the BATTLE OF THE BOOKS TEAM, students must like to read and be good at recalling information from what they have read. The team practices throughout the school year and competes in the spring against other middle schools in Cumberland County. The winner of the county competition continues to the regional level competition.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a club offered for student-athletes who seek to share their passion for sports and faith in Christ.  FCA will meet monthly for student meetings called “Huddles.” During Huddle times, student-athletes will meet to grow in their faith and learn about various opportunities to participate in school-related services.  We will strive to be leaders for our athletic teams, school peers, and the community.  Membership of FCA will be offered to 6th-8th-grade student-athletes only participating in athletics for GCMS. No dues are required, but commitment is extremely important. T-shirts will be available for all interested members!

First, it is NOT about solving crimes by autopsying dead bodies and finding telltale clues on tire treads and door handles. (Sorry, CSI fans!) Forensics is competitive public speaking in a performance format.  The middle school level consists of the following two categories: Interpretive Events - Duo, Humorous, Dramatic, and Storytelling.

Expressive Events - Original Oratory, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Public Forum (Debate)

Welcome to the fastest-growing division: FBLA-Middle Level. With more than 20,000 members nationwide, FBLA has exploded in middle schools. Members participate in a variety of activities including job shadow programs, community service projects, and American enterprise projects. Members even earn recognition on the local, state, and national levels!  If you are interested in developing leadership, communication, and team skills, or simply looking for an organization to meet and network with others at the local and state levels, then FBLA-Middle Level is the organization for you.

"Future Farmers of America" was founded by a group of young farmers back in 1928. Their mission was to prepare future generations for the challenges of feeding a growing population. They taught us that agriculture is more than planting and harvesting-- it's a science, it's a business and it's an art.

FFA continues to help the next generation rise up to meet those challenges by helping its members to develop their own unique talents and explore their interests in a broad range of career pathways.

So today, we are still the Future Farmers of America. But we are Future Biologists, Chemists, Veterinarians, Engineers, and Future Entrepreneurs of America.

Great Young Men (G.Y.M.), formerly known as Man Up, is a program that will give your young man tools on how to be an effective and accountable citizen in the community. These are life tools and are a process to follow. Our goal at the end of the year is for him to be an effective student, son, and citizen in the community.

Today, more than one million students are estimated to participate in activities of the NHS and NJHS. NHS and NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. Territories, and Canada. Chapter membership recognizes students for their accomplishments and challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service. The National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) are the nation's premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school and middle-level students. More than just an honor roll, NHS and NJHS serve to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character (and Citizenship for NJHS). These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginnings in 1921 and 1929.

Pep Band has the awesome job of "pepping" up the players and crowd at home football and basketball games. This group is made up of 2nd and 3rd-year band students who practice after school for performances at games and other school events.

Since 1931, the goal of NASC has been to help all student councils become more effective organizations. NASC represents middle-level and high-school councils nationwide. It seeks to provide a valuable leadership partnership between students and their schools. It creates an opportunity for students to become effective leaders, thus encouraging and influencing a positive school climate.  NASC is a program of the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Its operation and administration are at the national office in Reston, Virginia. An Advisory Committee, whose membership includes students, advisers, and principals appointed by the NASSP Board of Directors, provides valuable input and advice to NASC staff and is a national advocate for the association.

The Spanish Quiz Bowl Club at GCMS focuses on using Spanish in real-world situations. Students learn Spanish to prepare them to communicate with others through oral language, print, and the media. They are also encouraged to learn about the culture of the Hispanic countries…So get ready to virtually travel around the Spanish-speaking countries and learn the language.
