Fruits and VeggiesMost people know that eating fruits and vegetables is important for good health, but most of us still aren’t getting enough. This September, let’s participate in Fruits & Veggies – More Matters Month. Eating a healthy diet with plenty of vegetables and fruits can help you lower your risk for heart disease and some types of cancer, maintain or reach a healthy weight, and keep your body strong and active. Here are some ideas to help you and your family fit more fruits and vegetables into your day. Try keeping a bowl of fruit handy where the whole family can see it, cut up fruits and veggies ahead of time so they’re ready for quick, healthy snacks, and challenge your family to try a new veggie or fruit every week. Remember, eating more fruits and veggies can be fun and worth it!

ACMS recently participated in this partnership with Cross Creek Subaru. Subaru invited their customers who came to their dealership throughout August to help customize book labels and write notes of encouragement to young readers on bookmarks. Books were labeled and encouraging bookmarks were placed inside all 150 award-winning science books. ACMS received the donation on Friday, September 8th. A variety of science books have been distributed to the Science teachers in our school for classroom use. The titles cover a wide variety of science themes that include animals, physics, space, sports, and climate change. This donation was greatly appreciated by Anne Chestnutt Middle School!

The books were a part of the Subaru Loves Learning Initiative. The goal of this initiative is to make a positive impact on education by not only inspiring young minds but also providing them with the tools they need to think creatively. This year, Subaru of America has partnered with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Our goal at Cross Creek Subaru is to make that impact in our local community and this is where we would like to extend a partnership to Anne Chestnutt Middle School!

On Monday, August 21st the sixth-grade students and their teachers had the opportunity to participate in a variety of solar eclipse activities at ACMS. After a greeting and scientific explanation from Mrs. Burns, the students rotated through six activities. They were given the opportunity to make an eclipse pinhole viewer, create the suns corona, listen to a storyteller, make a bracelet, make a solar eclipse simulation, and measure UV light outside. Everyone had a great time celebrating this very special event.
